Evaluating your solution – Working with Cloud Computing to Power IoT Solutions

There are many ways to evaluate an AWS IoT deployment. One of the best ways is through the AWS Well-Architected Framework. The AWS Well-Architected Framework is a set of best practices and guidelines that are used in designing and operating reliable, secure, efficient, and cost-effective systems within the AWS cloud. It provides a consistent approach for customers and partners to evaluate architectures and implement designs that will scale over a period. The framework consists of five pillars: security, reliability, performance, cost optimization, and operational excellence.

Security

The security pillar ensures that you keep your systems and data secure. This includes factors such as identity and access management, network security, and incident responses to threats.

Reliability

The reliability pillar ensures that your systems are highly available and can withstand failures. This includes factors such as disaster recovery, autoscaling, and Multi-AZ deployments.

Performance

The performance pillar ensures that you are optimizing your systems for performance and cost. This includes appropriately rightsizing your resources and fine-tuning your reach with services such as Amazon CloudFront and Amazon ElastiCache. Amazon CloudFront is a fast content delivery network (CDN) service that securely delivers data, videos, applications, and APIs to customers globally with low latency and high transfer speeds, all within a developer-friendly environment. Amazon ElastiCache offers a fully managed in-memory data store service, compatible with Redis or Memcached, that provides high-performance, scalable caching for applications, significantly improving their responsiveness by allowing the fast retrieval of frequently accessed data.

Cost optimization

The cost optimization pillar ensures that you have optimized your systems for cost. This includes utilizing reserved instances when you are using them for production workloads that run for a year, using the appropriate storage types, and monitoring costs to identify and eliminate unnecessary expenses.
